Telematics Update: Spotify Sets its Sights on the Car Radio

Telematics Update: Spotify’s Pascal de Mul, Head of Global Hardware and Partnerships, will head to San Diego this December for the Content and Apps for Automotive USA 2012 Conference to meet with Honda, BMW, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz to explore the concept of an embedded app within the car dashboard.

As app development issues across the automotive platforms are being solved, and connectivity increases, it has made it easier for content providers such as Spotify to consider this route to customers. Spotify would look to use the car’s connected technology and an inbuilt app to provide their radio service over the internet, allowing its users to listen to their favourite music on the road. Spotify’s movements reflects a growing interest in the automotive market as a platform for apps and a new way to engage with consumers.

On Wednesday this week, London played host to the Apps World Conference, Europe’s largest focused apps conference to date. Telematics Update’s Managing Director, Precksha Saksena-Sood, spoke on an automotive panel, alongside BMW and Ford, and addressed how apps are becoming integrated into the vehicle. She noted, “Solutions are now being launched that allow for app development across platforms. This means the complexities for development in the auto-industry are rescinding and opening the gates for an automotive apps ecosystem”.

The automotive vertical presents a new and intriguing avenue for content providers and app developers. In light of this Telematics Update has organized the Content and Apps for Automotive USA 2012 Conference in San Diego, CA (December 4-5) which focuses on the roadblocks for integrating apps into the vehicle.  Representatives from Spotify, Facebook, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, NPR, Toyota and Honda will discuss the potential of the car as the next mobile platform for apps.

Content and Apps for Automotive USA 2012 will bring together industry executives and thought leaders to share knowledge and create new business relationships in the automotive and apps community.  An independently researched program and a world renowned collection of more than 30 expert speakers will address key issues in the development of content and apps for automotive.

Executive representatives from the automaker, app development, platform provider and wireless technology communities will meet to discuss:

  - Solutions to suit new cloud-based technologies and captivate a new realm of consumers
